As some of you know, I have fibromyalgia which causes me almost unbearable pain at times. Thanks to a series of fantastic events, I discovered that I am able to use dance as a natural pain reliever. The key for me it’s balance, which even after all these years, I’m still learning how my body reacts to different levels of activity and I’m still learning how to listen to my body when out says “Time to stop now”. As dancers, that it’s a lesson we all need til learn, whether it is from chronic illness, chronic pain or from injury.
This article talks about exactly that and is a great reminder that we need to protect this temple…❤❤❤
“Many of us decide to take up dancing to improve our physical health–and why not? Dance is a fun, dynamic, social form of exercise that gets us up and moving, burning calories, and boosting endorphins…”
Tonya Outlaw (BcS NC) and Willie McIntosh (BcS Italy) will be the Team Trainers for their respective areas. BcS NC’s rehearsals will be held Wednesday from 8:30 PM – 10:30 PM. The commitment for the first series is from May 2016 until Nov 2016 where the team will perform at the Baile con Sazon 5 Year Anniversary Bash (performance not required). Some will be invited to perform at the Tucson Salsa Bachata Festival in October.
Adolfo Indacochea will send video tutorials of his absolutely amazing choreography and give us personalized feedback as our team progresses. In addition to learning choreography, we will be working on spins, body movement, partnering and styling techniques.
Improve your Dancing – The best opportunity to improve your level by learning steps and tricks from Adolfo Indacochea and by performing his choreography, which will make you stand out from the rest when you go dancing.
Priceless Experience – Just with the lessons you will obtain priceless moments. Besides, you will participate in World Team Project’s and our collaborators’ events and you will even get to know the best artists and dance with them!
Join an International Family of Dancers – Share international experiences with dancers just like you, who are also part of this big family. The connection point? The passion for dancing and the performance of the same choreography.
Represent Adolfo Indacochea on Stage – Once you have learned the choreography, your team trainer will invite you to participate in incredible shows and events.
Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 8:30 – 10:30 PM from May – Nov 2016
Soldiers Who Salsa is an amazing non profit organization who’s mission is “To enhance and enrich the lives of active and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families through a unique program incorporating therapeutic social dancing with a variety of music and professional instruction.”
Baile con Sazon has decided to join this wonderful family of instructors in hopes of spreading the healing power of dance to our local military community. Our studio has very strong ties to our military. All of our owners, instructors and apprentices are either retired, separated or still serving on active duty, and we all agree that partner dancing has therapeutic qualities.
Who We Serve:
“Soldiers Who Salsa serves wounded, ill, and injured military service members in locations where they may already be receiving treatment or therapy… Check the calendar for the classes being offered in your area.
Because salsa dancing is such a social activity, it has also been invaluable to patients with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Common symptoms of PTS/PTSD include an aversion to close contact, avoidance of new activities and new surroundings, and reluctance to meet new people. Our classes provide a safe place for patients to not only learn a new activity, but also work on several of the most common symptoms. It is not uncommon to see patients laughing, smiling, and engaging with new people each week.”
Does this sound like you or someone you know? If so, join us! All you need is one of these items:
Active Duty ID
Retiree ID (that awesome blue card!)
Spouses are welcome! Click on the schedule below to reserve your place in class.
I am always trying to grow as a dancer. I feel that you never arrive at the end of your dance journey. There is always more to learn and experience. Check out this article by Grace of Dancing with Grace studio in Tampa, Fl:
I saw this article and it totally spoke to me. As a matter of fact, the first paragraph sounds like conversations that I’ve had almost word for word:
It’s a paradox, but as a fitness and dance instructor, I don’t get many chances to take a class. When I teach a class, I’m focused on my students. Instead of perfecting my technique, I’m watching everyone in the class to give corrections. And I must make sure that I challenge and entertain you all.
To all of you fitness and dance instructors out there, don’t forget about your own personal growth. Learn more so you can teach more. Take classes so you can remember what it is like to be a student. Never stand still, never be satisfied with where you are.

I found an article where this young lady had the privileged of interviewing the Mambo King. Mr. Eddie Torres is an amazing instructor, super talented dancer and an inspiration to dancers all over the world. If you call yourself a Salsero (or Salsera), you definitely need to know about Mr. Eddie Torres.
Here is the video that made me fall in love with Salsa and inspired my Salsa journey:
Here is an interview with him in Vancouver during the Vancouver Salsa Congress:
Here is Eddie Torres breaking down how to dance On 2:
And here he is performing with one of my VERY FAVORITE Salseras, Griselle Ponce. She is FIERCE!
Griselle Ponce, I want to be like you when I grow up. I have followed you from NC to NY to TX to NJ to Skyping in my living room just to train with you. You are a fierce, passionate, down to earth, resilient Salsera and an amazing business woman. I am so happy you are back on the dance scene sharing your love and talent with us. BTW, your costume is ON POINT!
Welcome back, Griselle! Now keep us posted on your next Immersion…
